What was your best/favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school was economics. I have always been fascinated with how economies work and how they are influenced by varying financial and social factors. When I was younger, my favorite subject was history. I still read history as a way to relax. I also enjoyed mathematics. Mathematics is one of the most important tools at the taxation expert’s disposal.
What was your first job?
My first job was in a restaurant. I bused tables and found that I was not very good at dealing with a high-pressure restaurant environment. I later went on to tutor other students in history and economics, and that job was a much better fit for me personally.
Where and how did you first get into the industry you currently work in?
I graduated from university in 1995 and spent several years attaining degrees. After I received my Master of Laws, I began working for a large consulting firm. The firm helped international companies deal with all of the tax regulations that they needed to be fully compliant with the law. It also helped companies reduce their tax liability as much as possible in order to raise their profitability.
How have those jobs prepared you for what you do now?
I feel that my first jobs tested me and made me aware that I was following the right career path. I am not afraid of hard work, but I believe that people should find their specialty and practice it as soon as they can.
Describe the best day of work you’ve ever had.
My best day was when I helped an international company reduce their tax liability to the point where they could afford to make a major expansion initiative. The company was able to reinvest their profits and hire more workers.
How do you keep yourself motivated?
I am motivated by the search for knowledge. I have always possessed intense curiosity, and I always want to know the reasons behind every decision people make. I believe that collecting information about the world is one of my strengths. I also enjoy hard work for its own sake. It is not hard for me to stay motivated.
Have you ever tried any unorthodox techniques to attract attention to your business?
I haven’t had to try any unorthodox techniques. My reputation speaks for itself, and I generally have more prospective clients than I can handle on my own. It is good to know that my services are held in such high regard, but I wish I could help even more companies meet their goals.
What personal achievement are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my reputation as an international taxation and wealth management expert. I know that I am one of the top professionals in my field. My reputation is very important to me, and I am always looking for ways to improve it.
What wisdom would you have liked to share with yourself when you first started out?
I would have told myself that I could achieve my dreams of being an independent consultant. I worked for large firms for quite some time, and I found that working for them stifled my creativity and my ability to solve problems on my own. Being out on my own as a consultant has been incredibly rewarding.
