John Monarch – CEO, ShipChain

John Monarch is the founder and CEO of Direct Outbound – one of the fastest growing fulfillment and logistics companies in the USA.  As a professional advisor and consultant, he has helped countless businesses achieve their goals and aspirations. John is also the CEO of Shipchain and a strong proponent of Blockchain technologies.

As a resident of Greenville, South Carolina, he enjoys spending time with family and his two adorable dogs, Hana and Baron. Let’s learn a little more about this accomplished writer, speaker, entrepreneur, and Blockchain expert.


1.What was your best/favorite subject in school?

As much as I loved the arts, I always had a flare for the sciences. In fact, I knew early on that I would be involved in burgeoning and new technologies.  I would spend countless hours reading and just filling my brain with information. Today, that information has paid off and I have parlayed my learning into two thriving and growing businesses. I still stay abreast of all the latest industry developments and technologies – you simply must in today’s challenging, competitive and ever-changing marketplace.


2. What was your first job?

One of my first jobs was going door to door to businesses and seeing if they needed websites built for them.  Not many people were too familiar with getting themselves online.  This was when the internet was still young and many businesses had little to no presence on the web.


3. Where and how did you get into the industry you currently work in?

I majored in Physics and Computer Sciences at Clemson University, my alma mater. After graduation, I jumped right into the e-commerce realm where I continued my education learning about new technologies and apps.  I wanted to concentrate on solving issues as opposed to just building side-roads to avoid the inevitable.

With this in mind, I established Direct Outbound; a business that would concentrate on fulfillment for e-clients that were looking for direct results, optimal fulfillment, and avenues that would propel their brands to new heights in any sector or niche.


4. How have those jobs prepared you for what you do now?

When I co-founded Direct Outbound Services, I truly honed in on my skills – especially when it came to business development for existing brands or entrepreneurs. I also wanted to establish a company that would reflect today’s vibrant and cloud-based technologies. This includes digital currencies, along with Blockchain technologies. For the latter, my companies have helped numerous startups effectively grow and expand.

Similarly, we teach you how to manage your own supply chains while cutting costs across the board. As always, we provide maximum client fulfillment with inbound customer services for a range of applications and industries, e-commerce, government, medical… You name it.


5. Describe the best day of work you have ever had

Every day is the best day of work for me. I mean I simply love the new challenges that await me after my morning cup of coffee. From meeting new clients to helping companies reach new heights, my passion is my work.  However, I will always be a student of the game and industry for as long as I am able to. This includes learning, adopting, and implementing new technologies that help expand educational and commercial horizons for all my clients and myself.


6. How do you keep yourself motivated?

From Bitcoin to the latest in e-commerce apps, there are literally a million and one ideas out there. I keep myself motivated by learning as much as I can as well as brainstorming new ideas and putting them into fruition. Again, every day presents a new opportunity and challenge for me, one that I love to share with my friends, colleagues, clients and loved ones.


7. What kinds of business ideas excite you most?

The ones that open the doors to a wealth of new and exciting opportunities. I love networking with fellow colleagues and exchanging business ideas. I am equally as passionate as promoting the many benefits of blockchain technologies but always open to new technologies and business proposals.


8. Have you ever tried any unorthodox methods to attract attention to your business?

Well, I believe in community groups and business meetings. Not sure how unorthodox that is but it’s a great way to effectively promote your products and services.  From core and niche to mass audiences, a product is only as innovative as your consumer buying place. Don’t get me wrong, I am not just about generating leads and profits, I want to help businesses streamline and centralize their protocols to save time, money and grow by leaps and bounds!


9. What personal achievement are you proud of most?

I am proud of overcoming countless obstacles and hurdles in my life. These are too many to mention or name, but I urge all entrepreneurs never to lose sight of your dreams. Always shoot for the stars in everything you do in life.


10. What advice you would have liked to share with yourself when you first started out?

Create a “Stop Doing” list. This is vital in businesses as it is for everyday life. In fact, this can help individuals become more effective by never letting obstacles block their way to success. Remember, know what not to do is just as important as grasping what to do!
